“The Curriculum”

          1960’s: A group of music educators in West Germany develop “Musikalische Fruherziehung,” or Music for the Young Child. The program helps children experience the joy of learning music before beginning formal music instruction. West Germany’s community music schools provide the program. Westminster Choir College sends American Music Educators to West Germany to observe the program.

          1970’s: Due to growing popularity, and interest in the United States musical community, the program is translated and adapted for American families.

          Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, provides classes for music educators to learn how to teach the curricula in the United States.

“The Company”

       1980’s: Daniel Pratt, a Westminster faculty member and Fulbright Scholar, starts Music Resources International (MRI), the company that recruits, trains, and supplies educators with curricula.

       1990’s: MRI moves to Greensboro, North Carolina, and is renamed “Kindermusik International, Inc.”

       1996: Michael Dougherty joins Kindermusik International, Inc. as President and Chief Executive Officer.

“Big News!”

        2002 Kindermusik International employees buy the privately held company from its 96 investors, becoming an ESOP (Employees’ Stock Ownership Program) company.

        2003: Do-Re-Me- & You!, an affiliate company of Kindermusik, is created.

        2005: Partnered with Signing Smart to Create “Sign and Sing” a music based signing class for infants and toddlers with their parents.

        2005: Introduced ABC Music & Me as an additional offering for day care music.

Research proves that a child’s abilities to think, reason, create, move, imagine, express, and remember, improves remarkably when music is a natural part of life. As a result of these findings, two companies were conceived – Kindermusik International, Inc., and Do-Re-Me & You!

In order to extend the accessibility of Kindermusik in step with our mission, an affiliate company, Do-Re-Me & You! was created. The formation of Do-Re-Me & You! as a direct selling business opens up opportunities for broader distribution and unrestricted direct selling venues to all consumers who desire to purchase quality musical learning products for children. Do-Re-Me & You! introduces a child to music in the natural home setting as the first step in bringing the power of music to a child’s life.

Today, the developmental benefits of music are increasingly well known, however the availability of age appropriate, high-quality musical learning products is scarce. Even though parents are interested in products that provide the benefits of music, there is not a market leader to guide them. Do-Re-Me & You! was created to fulfill this purpose. At a time when public education has all but abandoned music education, and budgets have put the arts in danger of extinction, Do-Re-Me & You! is making a difference. The difference starts at home – the difference starts with You!
